And just like that, October was gone. But, we finally got a decent swell out of her. And remembering my mom.

I'm sure I'm not alone when I say, that October is one of the biggest reasons why we live here. Those amazing foliage colors and the best swells always seem to arrive in October. I have been asked about a million times in my life, why would you live in New England, if you're so into surfing? I realize to the average lament on the street, who has little or no knowledge of our surf, that living here would be the last place you would want to live, if you're into surfing.

Of course, I would always point out to them the that there is GREAT surf here during all four of our seasons. But this season? The Fall? Autumn? That's my favorite. I know some of you prefer the hot summers. And some even prefer the cold snowy winters. I like them too. But October is by far my favorite month. From September thru November. Those are my faves.

This was the very first year I tried growing pumpkins. I didn't know, that I could have made sure these pumpkins would come out rounder if I had moved them around during it's growing season. Next year I'll be sure to manipulate them into being a more traditional pumpkin shape. These oblong orbs are cool, but they are not what the other half wants. No biggie. Next year I'll go full cosmetic on the big round orange ones. (Pumpkins not Trump)

This swell was long overdue for us Octoberites. The last decent swell we had was MARIA. That was at the end of September. And what a September it was. Surely we all thought that October would be even better. Nope. Not even close. In fact, the weather was extremely warm. Hell it was hot and humid. That's NOT October that's August! But alas, I am more patient now that I am on the other side of that slippery slope called life. I was reserved and calm. I knew that we'd eventually get some October waves.

The morning of October 27th, 2017 we got our waves.

The waves were beautiful. I mean absolutely beautiful. That perfect blue green with crisp off shore winds made for some of the best waves I've seen around here in quite sometime. The swell lasted all day, and there were some leftovers the next day, but it was dying by the hour. But hey, the good news is we have more waves coming on Monday. Yay! Just in time for Halloween.

I shot this the other day in North Hampton. Pretty cool. Is it just me, or has Halloween decorations taken on a whole new level? I know that America has always had this silly fascination with Halloween, but damn. The houses and stores are all lit up with Halloween stuff. The inflatables alone are a head scratcher for me. But hey, if it makes people feel good, then I'm all for it.

Lord knows we could all use something to smile about.

Finally, my mom would have turned 92 on October 28th, if not for the cancer that took her 10 years ago this month. All my siblings agree, that my mom would have outlived us all if not for cancer. So Happy Birthday Ma. We all still love and miss you.

Now for Some International News

This North Korea pain in the ass is not going to go away on it's own. Something is brewing. No missile launches in a few weeks? Trump is scheduled to visit Asia. I wouldn't put anything past these two. I'm going to guess that we won't get into a nuclear war, but we will get into some kind of conflict. In other words, people will die. North Koreans, South Koreans, and Americans.

These two are like a couple of school yard bullies. Trouble is, one of them is going to go too far. Pushing the other to react. Oh it's coming. Of that I am sure.

One of these cartoonist ripped the other one off. They are both pulling hair and ears. Same concept.

KSM Photoshop of the Week
So what are you going to be for Halloween this year? Let me suggest the new KSM mask. Clearly he's scarier than these silly monsters and zombies. You'll be the life of the party. People be like "Whoa! That's some scary shit you got on your face!" And you can get really scary by yelling out "ALLAH ARKBAR!"
The KSM mask is made at GITMO. Order yours now!

So my friends, please take advantage of this weekly photo shop of the mastermind who planned 9-11 and resulted in the deaths of 3,000 innocent civilians by KSM (Khalid Sheik Mohammed).

*Note to self -must pick up a case of Corn Candy, Snickers bars, milky ways, Reeces Pieces, and other terrible candy at Home Depot this week.

GRANITE GIRLS Trailer II 10-19-17 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

This is the second trailer for the upcoming GRANITE GIRLS and The River Women movie. These are all new clips. I have over 25 women appearing in the final cut. The trailers are too short to have them all in. So, having said that, the music for this trailer is by QWILL. I had to push back the release to get some additional footage. We're now looking at anywhere from the last week in November to the week before Channakuh and Christmas. And what a lovely Holiday present this DVD will make. I've been having fun putting this together. And I think most of the women are really looking forward to the release. *There will be a Premiere screening prior to the movie going to DVD. I'll keep you all posted on that date and location.

MARIA from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

Hurricane MARIA in New England. It's hard to get excited about a swell from a storm that devastated Puerto Rico. Lets face it, all East Coasters love PR. It's our Go To place for Tropical dream waves. The surf from Maria was well worth the travel woes. It's all New England Surfers. The music is by my old band SEMPER FI and the title of the song that I wrote in 1983 is...MARIA. I know ironic huh? David Robinson from The CARS produced the song. I also included a couple of tunes from Tom Petty. I loved that man and his music. So sad. If any of you want to help out the people of Puerto Rico contact the AMERICAN RED CROSS. Thanks.

JOSE September 20th to September 24th, 2017 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

TS Jose came to town and just got ugly on us. Rain and onshore winds, with glimpses of glass, and sun. But mostly Jose was ugly and dirty. Nothing wrong with ugly, as long as there is some size and entertainment. And there was all of that and then some. The surfers are the local knowns and unknowns. But the music? The VINNY band music was recorded in 1983. Three songs off of our OLAS DE SEXO LP produced by David Robinson of The CARS. I wrote all the songs on the LP. The songs in this video are: "WAVES" "I NEVER SAW YOU" and "HERE'S WHERE I GET OFF" the last song is probably the best song I ever wrote. And I've written a few hundred. The VINNY band included my brother Johnny Fatello guitar, Greg Nesto bass, Javier Pico Keyboards, and Peter Goutzos drums. I hope you like both the video and the soundtrack. Come on MARIA!!!!!

AUGEASTER 8-30-31-2017 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

With all the recent Hurricane activity as of late I had put this footage on the back burner. It's that end of August Nor'easter that we had on the 30th and 31st of August. I was surprised when doing the edit at just how good the waves were that swell. There's some really good surf in this edit. It's all local. Both the talent and the surf. I used the cool Beautiful People sampling Hendrix tunes. And once again, it all flows.

I'll be busy shooting JOSE and MARIA in the next few days, meanwhile, take
a short trip back to last month and enjoy AUGEASTER.

IRMA 9-9-17 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

Me and the newest Inductee into the "East Coast Hall Of Fame" Kevin F. Grondin went south to meet up with the first swell from Hurricane IRMA.
The water was warm and green, and the boys were all over it. The surfers that I know who appear in this film are: Kevin Grondin, Kody Grondin, Robbie Goodwin, Sam, Liam, Jared Veltsos, Max Fatello, and Jesse Gould. The music is by my old band SEMPER FI and it was recorded back in 1986 on a 4-track machine in our rehearsal place. The songs are GIMME SHELTER and DON'T GIVE UP (an original song I wrote).

The musicians in this version of Semper Fi are :Ralph Fatello guitar and lead vocals, Rich Appel bass and backing vocals, Eric Brown drums and backing vocals, and Greg Lyons keyboards.
